The center has 32 institutes and facilities at 16 locations in Germany, including 4 institutes dealing with research in the area of traffic management, new vehicle concepts, human factors, and telematics.
At the Institute of Transportation Systems solutions for human-centred driver assistance systems, traffic surveillance and management as well as for automation, disposition and train control in rail traffic are designed, developed and evaluated.

Alma Mater Studiorum, Università di Bologna was founded in 1088 and is considered to be the oldest university in Western Europe.
DISI, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is a research-led institute which expertise spans the whole range of electronics, communications, computer science, biomedical engineering and operations research. In particular, the DISI research groups that will be involved in COLOMBO are the Artificial Intelligence and Optimization and the Mobile Middleware Groups.
||Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)
The Université Libre de Bruxelles was founded on November 20th, 1834.
IRIDIA is the computational intelligence lab of the ULB. The lab researchers are active in many research domains related to computational intelligence. In particular, IRIDIA is one of the world leaders for research in swarm intelligence, stochastic local search, and automated algorithm configuration methods.
|Imtech Traffic & Infra (PEEK/IMTECH)
Original project member Peek Traffic B.V. was rebranded as Imtech Traffic & Infra in 2013. It is an international company, specialised in the development, sales, implementation and maintenance of products, systems and services in the field of intelligent traffic and transport solutions.
By applying a wide range of products, system solutions and services, the company realises its main objective to support its customers in the development, implementation and evaluation of an optimal mobility policy. The functional markets that are recognised are: urban and inter-urban mobility systems, public transport, enforcement and safety and mobility information services.

Technical University of Graz was founded 1811.
The Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics (IVT) participates in COLOMBO as well as the Institute of Highway Engineering and Transportation Planning (ISV). IVT and ISV had many international and national research projects on emission simulation and transport.
EURECOM is a dynamic graduate school and private research center in communications systems created in 1991 in Sophia Antipolis, Europe's leading international science park.
EURECOM’s research activity focuses on research and education in 3 domains which have led to the creation of three research departments: Networking & Security, Multimedia Communications, and Mobile Communications (CM).
